The Prevention Division is committed to preventing injuries.
When a building is being built or renovated, the plans are reviewed carefully to ensure proper building materials, fire protection and alarm systems are included. After the building is occupied, it is assigned to a fire inspector based on its location in the city, who then completes a fire inspection.
Safety education classes are available for businesses and residents, ages 3 and up, on a variety of topics.
Fire investigations also are the responsibility of the Prevention Division.
