Camp Inferno is an annual supervised week-long overnight camp designed to give teen-age girls a taste of a career in firefighting and Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
By empowering young women to become
more confident and skilled, Camp Inferno
uses the skills and challenges of firefighting
as a vehicle
for leadership training and team building.
At camp, girls, ages 15-19 will learn:
- Basic fire behavior/tactics
- Live fire training
- First Aid/CPR
- Search and rescue
- Self-defense
- Extrication
- Physical agility
- Rappelling
- Aerial ladder climbing
- Interviewing, resume-building skills
- How to use tools, ladders, ropes and knots.
This experience will incorporate the same basic principles that the professional firefighters of Johnson County follow each day as they protect our community.
The camp is hosted by the Overland Park Fire Department and co-sponsored by Consolidated Fire District No. 2, the Leawood, Shawnee and Olathe fire departments and Johnson County Med-Act.
