Overland Park has 78 parks, open space areas and four small lakes available for public use. Some of these parks have shelters that can be reserved for a small fee. Other shelters can be used on a first-come first-serve basis.
Amenities at our parks include one or more of the following:
- Restrooms
- Water
- Electricity
- Lights
- Playground equipment
- Picnic tables
- Grill
- Parking
- Activities fields
- ADA accommodations
Parks Regulations and Rules:
- Park hours are 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
- Alcoholic or cereal malt beverages are prohibited in parks, including parking lots and drives.
- Motorized vehicles are prohibited within park areas and bike/hike trails.
- Fires may be built only in cookers provided by the city and are to be extinguished before leaving.
- All waste materials should be deposited in the proper disposal drums.
- Firecrackers and fireworks are prohibited.
- Horseback riding is allowed along bike/hike trails and wooded areas, but not on athletic fields, court areas, open fields where athletic events occur, picnic areas or around playground areas.
- Woodcutting for firewood or other reasons is prohibited.
- Restrooms in park areas are open approximately May 1 to Oct. 1.
- Park areas may not be used for any commercial enterprise.
- Boats with motors are prohibited on all lakes.
- All boats must carry oars to operate the craft and one life preserver for each occupant.
- Fishing and game laws of the state of Kansas must be observed while fishing at parks. This includes having a Kansas state fishing license.
- Swimming, wading and bathing is prohibited.
