As a result of tax legislation (Section 21 of House Bill 2375), the Kansas Department of Revenue has assigned a unique Tax Exempt Identification Number and special Tax Certificate containing this number to all known Kansas-based tax-exempt entities.
This uniquely-numbered certificate is used to streamline the tax exemption process for the city and other local government entities as well as to assist Kansas retailers in identifying the non-profit entities exempt from paying Kansas sales or use tax.
Kansas retailers have been instructed to not accept any other type of exemption certificates from the entities affected by the legislation.
All city purchasing cards have a sticker with the sales tax exempt number applied to the back of them.
